How Did We Get Here???

Thursday, April 14, 2011

I don't know about you, but I don't really like the "woman" who represents us gals now.  What happened to innocence and femininity and simple, honest beauty?
I want it to be like it was before...how about you?

How did we go from looking like this...

to this?

and when did our bodies change from this...

to this?

This used to be what a real beauty looked like...

now we are told in order to be beautiful, we have to look like this...

How did we go from astounding natural beauty...

to "everybody uses the same doctor beauty"?

You could be completely feminine and still be stunning...

why do we have to be trashy now?

Hallmark of a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice...

Housewife!!!

Housewife?

Ava was cutting edge...

this is not even near the line

Remember when each face was unique and different and fresh looking?

These days the hair, lips and eyes all look exactly alike...

She looks so honest and clean and lovely...

she looks scary and dirty and untrustworthy...

When sexy was just that...sexy...

Please don't shoot me, but this is not sexy...

Here's the entertainment standard that young girls aspired to then...

How did the look of Rita get replaced by the same lips and hair as everyone else in Hollywood today?

Hard working professional media woman...

what is happening to our newscasters?

Fresh, clean country girl...

I'm not sure how fresh she is.

Sorry for the ranting, but I have really been thinking alot about this lately and wanted to see if any of you are feeling as misrepresented as I am.

This is my ideal of what it means to be a woman...

This classy lady is my fav and I want to model my appearance after her.
I love her shoes, her lovely, shapely dress, and her classic hair...she is the real beauty!

21 of you say...:

I totally agree! I was lucky enough to grow up when ladies still tried to dress like women, and vice versa. I know it's easy to throw on jeans and never dress up, but I am really trying to get back to it. I love working in a nursing home as a Social Worker because the ladies there really lived in that era, and when I wear vintage, they love it! but yes, I feel sad when I look at these "modern" pictures. Thanks for the post.

yes, people nowadays think you have to look in some way to be pretty, I used to have a lot of issues because I'm not slim, my face is round, I have natural dark circles under my eyes... that was beauty a few centuries back hahaha... and I don't think it is bad for the concept of beauty to change and evolve but I do hate that we can't appreciate different kinds of bodies and styles anymore! that is really sad... and decadent

Hey Frankie's Wife,
I just found your blog, and I love it! Oh my gosh you are so right. The standard women think they need to look like to be beautiful now a days is truely unreal. Also who wants to look like a plastic barbie. Not mee.
Thanks Joelle

I couldn't agree with you more! Like the others that commented on this post. So we who agree with you must be that small group of girls that think every woman should be unique and is beautiful in her own way. Just like in the old days.

You hit the nail right on the head!
I feel the same way! I wish I could be that feminine woman!
I couldn't agree more that the woman of today lacks class and the softness of being a lady.
Thanks for a great post and rant any time you need to!

Thank you ladies for the wonderful confirmation. I have encountered so many of you that actually do feel this way, but are "bullied" by our society to fit in. We should all rise up and unite!

Thanks for your lovely comments...I apprecitate the sincere words!

I almost ALWAYS wear dresses with petticoats. Some people give me the most bizarre looks - like they think I am insane or something. The other half always have to ask if I am going square dancing! :)

Hi! Just found your blog, and I´m now a fan. :) You are sooo right! Many things were lost over the years. I was born in the 70´s, and I love love the 40´s and 50´s. I should have been born in those years....
Great blog!! :)

I just found your blog and feel like I've found a kindred soul! I couldn't agree more with what you said.

Amen!!! And don't you think that women were treated with more class when they acted like they HAD class! I was wearing my Grama's 1950's suits when I was in my early 20's (mid-late 80's) and men were always paying attention to me. They loved them, the way they looked, the colors. Always had compliments on those clothes. Wish I hadn't worn them out teehee.

Let's have a revolution and start insisting on classic 40s to early 60s clothing styles.

Your opinion is 100% on the mark girl!

I totally agree!! I adore all the beauties from the past! My role-models are women from the 30s and the 40s! Todays women, they so have no style! People tell you, you have to be thinner than thin and dress yourself slutty to be pretty! not for me please!!
