Wednesday, March 31, 2010

Hello Everyone...I hope most of you already know my good friend Cat of:
The Vintage Housewife...

she is such an amazing person and is so sweet to spotlight me on her blog. She has been such an inspiration in my life lately and I am truly blessed to call her my friend...if you don't already know her, please check her out at http://thevintagehousewife.blogspot.com/

she is adorable!

Yahoo...Easter is coming and so is Peter Cottontail...I wanted to share some of my vintage easter goodies with ya.

I started collecting years ago and some

are traditional,

some are kitschy,

and some are downright adorable...

anyway, however you find them, I hope you have fun looking too.

These colors are so yummy together...I feel so lucky when I come across these vintage Hallmark holiday decos in mint condition...are you kidding? Use them?

No Way!

They stay in the original package just exactly the way they came from the 5 & dime so many years ago!!!

You just have to see the detail of these cute plastic cupcake picks...I love to use 'em on cupcakes I make for the kiddos at our traditional Easter Sunday Lunch with the WHOLE family...yummies like this don't last long and how I treasure the memories I have collected spending time with my precious family on special holidays.

Hey...Psst...

Wow, look at this fun stuff...

doesn't it make you feel happy?

I love the way these kitschy plastic cake decorations delight me.

My friend, the Chick in the Basket sits smack dab in the middle of my

Easter table!

My Easter post just wouldn't be complete if I didn't give you all a little taste of the vintage handmade doilies from my delicates collection.

This special holiday is always a wonderful reason to display them!

...more eye candy!!!

I love to use these adorable pink birdie candle pics on top of birthday cakes too.

These magical Mary Engelbreit pieces are from my mother's collection...she went home to be with our precious Lord last year and she is dearly missed.

I am blessed to have the good fortune of being able to love and appreciate her treasures the same way she did.

Oh, by the way, this adorable vintage straw purse is going to accompany my easter outfit this coming Sunday.

I want to leave you with one last shot...

...uh oh, look who snuck in...it's Mabel, the Easter Hen!

Wishing you all a blessed Easter Sunday,

make sure to tell your loved ones how special they are to you!

Kitschy Corners # 2

Wednesday, March 24, 2010

Hi Everyone...
Welcome to another little "kitschy corner" of my kitchen...I wanted to show you my baking center where I whip up wholesome meals for my family...
It will do your heart good to know that I use recipes that I have taken from my
vintage cookbooks of course.
I hope you will adore my little corner of
pink central...
This is the most concentrated use of vintage pink in my kitchen and I hope it makes you feel happy when you look here...

I just love to arrange fun, kitschy stuff together and it was especially exciting putting together this darling vintage shelf, with so many little cubbies to display stuff on..

Over the years I have collected tons of "ephemera", especially kitchen and appliance advertisements,
take a look at these great ones that I have combined with my Ohio Art recipe keeper, pink plastic laundry sprinkler, and my silly teabag holder...

I think this little cubbie is my favorite though...don't you just love my Memo Chef? He's so funny and a little bit mischevious...don't you think?
Oh, and also the vintage Tupperware coasters?
Can you believe I found a pink egg slicer?
I really think God likes to delight my heart with little vintage finds like this...

Aqua and pink diamond tumbler set, so fun on the company table...

Ice tea served in this vintage rubber coated spaghetti string set is sooo atomic!

More fun pink kitchen goodies make this niche so yummy to behold...

The very top shelf of my center is the most fun I think 'cause it holds vintage, mint in box, actual goods from "the era"... I have combined all of these with a great lighted atomic star clock, found on ebay, and my beloved West Bend lighted coffee pot with matching atomic star glass jar...
just too yummy for words!!!

It's so fun to prepare food in this little area...
I just love using my pink plastic cannister set...

and the darling pink utensils that match...

...but what is really cute about this vignette is the darling pink teapot wall pocket that I have lovingly stuffed with a cherished pair of oven mitts...

You've just gotta see this precious print up close on these cuties...
I would love to have a dress made of this adorable print, I would wear it everyday!

Oh my, I think this looks so amazing next to my pink Frigidaire...I found this vintage Dixie Cup dispenser and matching cups, mint in the box at an estate sale, but I had to take her out of her box to use her...
but that's OK too, cause I saved the box!

Whoa, I almost forgot to show you a little peek at my tile trivet collection...
...and vintage oven mitt collection...

Sometimes you gotta use vintage cork boards, but that's good cause they're just as cute...

...it leaves you begging for more, doesn't it?
But sadly, it's time to close the "kitschen" down, so I will leave you with one last dreamy, "kitchen closed for the night" pic!

Thanks so much for stopping by and stay tuned for more episodes of
"Kitschy Corners"
I hope you enjoyed reading as much as I loved showing!

This is how the Rat Pack lived, Baby!

So...we are not drinkers...really, but I love anything
Vintage Las Vegas,

so I created a swanky retro Vegas lounge in my home...

Welcome to Frenchie's and yes, we are open all night!

Just name your poison...Frankie can mix it...

He looks so natural behind my

1960's Turquoise Boomerang Bar.

I picked her up at an Estate Sale 5 years ago!

It has the yummiest black and gold swirled formica countertop and brass button tufting on the front. Came with four turquoise vinyl bar stools and wonderful storage behind the curve.

Just about eveything belonging to Frenchie's

is

Vintage Vegas!!!

So, this really is how the Rat Pack lived, Baby!!!

This is how my guest's live too!

Stay tuned for more delectible details of all the vintage bar goodies the shelves...

Kitschy Corners #1

Hey...I wanna share a fun kitschy corner of my kitchen with ya...

I love, love, love old pink and turquoise kitchen gadgets and doo-dads. I just adore arranging all my fun stuff together by color or theme, but sometimes I "mix it up" just to be ornery!

Take a look at this cute little corner of my kitchen with tons of yummy eye candy...doesn't it make you feel happy too?

I picked this darling metal shelf up at a thrift store for $5 and when I brought her home, I knew just where to put her!

What do you think about this adorable vintage box of Scott Cut-Rite wax sandwich bags-estate sale find with all the bags inside?

Also, the cute clear plastic Frigi-Box for storing your left-over vintage yummies in the fridge. I simply love to find original, mint condition treasures like these.
Wow...

most of these darling Pyrex pieces were wedding gifts to my mother when she married my daddy in 1962...how blessed am I to have them in my kitchen now!!!

Aqua kitchen gadget central...there is nothing sweeter than these!

or these...

But, just to be a rebel, I have to throw some orange into the mix.

See, it all works out just fine!

I hope you had as much fun viewing this first episode of Kitschy Corners as much as I did posting it, one last thing...

I have to share my very atomic Presto kitchen timer on legs...what a wonderful space age gadget! ...

and it does have a LOUD RING just like it says!

Can't wait to see you all next time!

Vintage Eats

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Growing up as a Southern Cali girl, I had the blessed fortune of getting to eat fast food...alot.
Sadly though, everything changes and things loose their charm. Some of these amazing places don't even exist anymore.
So, let your memory soar and your tastebuds reminisce as you view these tasty images...

My personal favorite at Lakewood Shopping Center...I've had many a birthday party here...

Ohhh, I can still taste the beans...
and I want whatever they are offering for only 19 cents

Jack in the Box used to be so quaint, very retro modern...
Where did the cowboy hat go???

Love that A-Frame red roof...

Who remembers these...
from here...

Many of you already remember what these popular places used to look like?
How many of you remember the way the food "used" to taste?

My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Monday, March 8, 2010

Hooray! What a fun sale weekend...look what I got...

I'm a sucker for random plastic kitchen stuff, like this cute red plastic bowl and the plastic turquoise utensil tray. It's little finds like this that really add to the happiness in my home. I really love the gold atomic napkin holder...don't ya think it will go great with my gold coffee klatsch set?

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I found these! I have been looking for these metal bathroom accents for years. They are mega chromed and recessed for a 1940's bathroom look. The toothbrush holder/soap dish is so darling, I wonder how I can talk Frankie into installing them really, really soon...like tomorrow?
Don't you just love the metal switch plates with the gold detailing? You can't get these anymore...Hmmm, I wonder where I will put them?

I definately can't wait to get these adorable pink rose towels laundered and in use in my vintage bathroom. These are such a fun vintage JC Penny find...but wait, check out these cool shades.. real glass lens vintage sunglasses are so fun! Frankie looks just exactly like James Dean in them.

Here's the part I couldn't wait to share with ya...just take a gander at this amazing ORANGE glass table lighter and matching ashtray!!! I about did a heart flip when I saw this set and I ran to scoop it up as fast as I could. I'm so glad my kiddo is such a trooper when I drag him to "house sales" as he calls them. But, who can appreciate the groovy ORANGE plastic utensil tray???

I can!
