My heart yearns to be vintage always. My desire is to live as a post-war housewife, cleaning, making dinner for my nuclear family, and cookies for the kiddo after school. But sometimes I get pulled the other way by our society. Help! I just want to be me...funny, vintage, classy and free to dress the way women used to when we were still feminine and men were too respectful to swear in our presence. So I surround myself in my home with everything vintage, right down to the appliances in my kitchen and the vintage toys my son plays with. If I have something that is modern, I hide it, so it won't break the spell. Some people think girls like us are in denial, but we know what's up...we are ladies and proud of it!
I live near a retirement community and there are Estate Sales just about every week. Almost everything in my home has come from a sale. I love the fact that these dear elderly people who have passed away have taken such fantastic care of thier stuff. It must be a post-war frame of mind...what you have is all you're going to get so ya better make it last. I love that fact that they loved thier things and took care of them as much as I'm going to. I treasure the lovingly laundered dish towels and the gadgets that are too precious to throw away, so they are saved in a box in the garage. That is actually where I start when I first roll up on a sale, the garage. I have found the bulk of my housewares in the garage. But, I get most excited when I walk into the living room and it's like stepping back in time...I know instantly it's going to be a good day for "sale-ing"
Gotta have it!
When I find these, I will make them mine.
